Your Questions About Group Activities, Answered
Trying something new can feel like a big leap, especially when you don't know what to expect. So if you're thinking about joining our NDIS group activities in Gippsland and Melbourne but you're not quite sure what you're signing up for, this one's for you.
We've pulled together the questions we get asked the most. Real questions, straight answers. No jargon, no fluff.

What actually happens at group activities?
It depends a bit on which activity or program you come along to. Some are built around specific goals, so you might be working on something in particular. Others are more about broader life skills, the everyday stuff that genuinely makes a difference. Things like communication, building confidence, managing money when you're out, ordering your own meal, or just getting comfortable in a social setting.
And it's never boring. One week it might be bowling and dinner. The next it could be a trip to a local hiking spot, a footy game, mini golf, or just a solid feed somewhere good. We build it around what people actually enjoy, so you're doing stuff you like with people who like the same things. That's where the real friendships come from. Either way, it never feels like a lesson. You rock up, you join the crew, and you're part of something.
Will I know anyone there?
Maybe, maybe not. And that's the whole point. Loads of people come along for the first time not knowing a soul. We had one bloke who showed up to his first session pretty quiet and unsure, and a few weeks in he had a whole crew of mates he looks forward to seeing every week at dinner. That happens more than you'd think. Our crew are really good at helping you settle in, so you're never just left standing there on your own.

What if I get nervous or it all feels like a lot?
That's normal, and we get it. Heaps of people feel nervous before their first one. Our support workers are there the whole time to help you feel comfortable at your own pace. There's no pressure to dive straight in. You can ease into it however works for you. Most people find that after a session or two, the nerves just melt away.
Honestly, the best way to know if it's for you is to come and see. Flick us a message and we'll talk you through what your first one would look like.
Do you sort out transport?
We can. We're happy to arrange transport to and from activities if that makes life easier. Some participants would rather meet us at the venue, or want to save a bit on their funding, and that's totally fine too. We'll work out the logistics around what suits you best.
Does the NDIS pay for it?
In most cases, yes. Group activities for adults with disabilities usually come out of your NDIS social and community participation funding or can be other categories, depending on the program. If you're not sure whether you've got the right funding for it, have a chat with us and we can help point you in the right direction.
Where do you run group activities?
All over the place. We run disability group activities across Gippsland, the Mornington Peninsula and south east Melbourne, so there's a good chance we've got something happening near you. Get in touch and we'll let you know what's on in your area.
Who comes along to group activities?
Our social activities for young adults with disabilities are for people with mild to moderate disabilities, aged 18 to 45 and up. The crew is a mix of all sorts of people, all there for the same reason. To be social, make mates, and get amongst some good adventures.
How do I get started?
Easy. Flick us a message and we'll have a chat about what you're after and how we can help. We'll sort the boring paperwork, match you with the right crew, and before you know it you'll be rocking up to your first one.
Still got a question we haven't answered? We'd love to hear from you.
Give us a call on 1800 319 581 or email hello@tdacvic.com and we'll sort you out.
Because the hardest part is showing up to the first one. After that, you're one of the crew.
