What the 2026 NDIS changes mean for social funding

07 July 2026 ยท 3 min read

You might have heard there are changes coming to the NDIS. If social and community funding is part of your plan, it is easy to feel a bit lost in it all. So here is the plain gist, minus the jargon.

One thing first, and we mean this. We are a social crew, not the NDIS and not a plan manager. This is not our area, and we are not going to pretend it is. Everything below points you to the people who actually know. For your own plan, your support coordinator, your plan manager or the NDIS are the ones to trust.

The short version

The government is resetting how much funding goes into social, civic and community participation supports. In plain terms, this part of some plans is changing, and it is being brought in gradually as plans get reassessed or renewed.

We are not going to put numbers on it here, and for good reason. The detail is still being worked through, and it can change. The only place worth getting the current figures is the source itself, and your own coordinator or plan manager for what it means for you.

Straight from the source:

The reform overview: health.gov.au — Securing the NDIS for future generations

The NDIS itself: ndis.gov.au

When

The changes are being brought in from late 2026, and rolled out over time as plans come up for reassessment. It is not an overnight thing, and nobody loses funding on one set date. Your coordinator can tell you the likely timing for your plan.

What is not changing

The government has said supports for critical daily living and personal care are not part of this. This change is about the social and community participation side.

And the big picture has not changed one bit. Getting out, making mates and being part of your community matters just as much as it ever did. That is not going anywhere, and neither are we.

What you can do

Nothing needs doing this second, but a few sensible steps help you feel in control:

Have a yarn with your coordinator or plan manager about what it means for your plan.

Make good use of the funding you have now, rather than letting it sit there.

Keep an eye on the official NDIS updates as more detail lands.

Where this leaves us

We are still here, still running our days out, social nights and programs, and still helping people make the most of the funding they have. If you are ever unsure whether we fit your plan, come and have a chat. We will point you to the right people for the parts that are not ours to answer.

Give us a call on 1800 319 581 or email Hello@tdacvic.com.

Because whatever the funding does, everyone still deserves a crew.
